I am very lucky that there was wind and one of the good sites was available. Otherwise, I probably would have had to stay at the beach the entire time too and then run to my tent and stay there. Definitely not the best spot in bug season, but the beach was nice. Sorry to hear about the chipmunk incident. We were stuck down in the woods with the skeeters as the two good Popple sites were taken. Wound up eating all morning/ evening meals on the beach where the pesky beach flies proved less of a menace. Quickly learned to wear long pants to thwart flies.<br /><br />Beach there is pretty, though stony out in the water. Not a good bathing site if winds are up, as this part of the island is exposed to big waves. You must pack your own water or (as we often did) boil lake water for cooking since Popple has no well.<br /><br />Despite best precautions, an acrobatic rodent managed to climb to my hanging food pack, gnaw a small hole (easily repaired) and gorged himself on a single-serve container of peanut butter!
